F.lli Santorelli Sas di Vetrano Elena & C (FS)
Fratelli Santorelli, born in 1972 as a company dedicated to the production of cherries, but over the years has specialized in the processing of cherries and other fruits to produce i) coloured (whole and halves) cherries for fruit salad, dyed with the artificial dye erythrosine (E 127); ii) sulphured (SO2) cherries (with and without stem, whole and half) for maraschino and confectionery sector; iii) orange and lemon peels, used by companies in the confectionery sector. As a result of the increased sales of their products, in 1995 the Company moved its production activity in a new building covering of 44000 square meters, equipped with the most technologically advanced machinery. Nowadays the Company commercialized its products on both national and especially on the international market in different countries, including Middle East, Persian Gulf, North South and Central America, Australia, the Far East, as well as all over Europe. Currently FS is looking for advanced and sustainable technological solutions in
order to meet the statements of the new regulation on food safety and the increasing attention of consumers, which are paying more and more attention towards concepts like naturalness, nutritional and sensory characteristics of food products as well as sustainability of the food production.
Main tasks
FS will provide cherries by-products to obtain natural pigments and bioactive compounds (WP1-3), will play a key role mainly by supporting ProdAl and the other partners with its expertise, facilities and qualified personnel in the development of more natural, safe and high quality cherries based products (WP4). AM will also play crucial role in the frame of WP5 (Analyses of consumer behaviour) by involving retailers and other key stakeholders involved in the fruit value chain.
